Disney Deja Vu!

Last weekend I was lucky enough to go back to Disney World in Orlando to watch my friend run the Disney’s Princess 1/2 Marathon. The morning of the marathon we arrived at Epcot before the sun was even up! The race began at 6am.

And here is her medal:

Later on that day we went to Downtown Disney for lunch and then over to Paradise Island when we needed a break and decided to go watch a movie at the AMC.

This was a dine-in theatre, and while we didn’t eat there is was impressive enough to take some pictures inside!

Comfy chairs to relax in after being up extremely early on marathon day!

Every set of seats in the row has a counter to eat at, just press the button on the ledge for the waiter to come and take your order!

We had stopped at my favorite Babycakes Bakery on the way over to the theatre and grabbed some snacks for the movie.

The next day was another fun day at Hollywood Studios.

First thing we did? Make a beeline to the scariest rides at the park of course! First the Tower of Terror, and then the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster featuring Aerosmith.

Yes this roller coaster does go upside down! I have no idea how many times because my eyes were closed the whole ride! We stayed at the park until evening, then went back to the hotel for an early night.

On our last day we went to Magic Kingdom.

We met up with Cinderella’s evil step-sisters and step-mother.

Since it was a warm day we took the plunge and went on Splash Mountain too!

It was a busy long weekend, but so much fun! Now back to winter for hopefully only a few more weeks!

More Disney

Last bit of our trip to Orlando today!
We spent a day at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, here are some of the pictures from that day.

Goofy and his handler.

Walking into Asia.

Expedition Everest: We rode this roller coaster 3 times!

Then we moved on to Kali River Rapids.

We went twice during our day there. We brought rain ponchos with us and I’m glad we did! The first time we stayed pretty dry…

The second time we ended up like these people above, even with the rain ponchos we still got a bit wet. As the sign says “You will get wet. You may get soaked!”.
And yes the photos were taken with a waterproof camera. 😉

We also took the Kilimangaro Safari to see the animals.

Animal Kingdom also has a parade with the Disney characters everyday.

The Tree of Life connects all of the themed areas of the park.

Thanks for reliving our little winter escape with me!

What to Eat

Our fist day in Orlando we went to Downtown Disney for lunch at Cap’n Jack’s. It’s located in the light blue building overlooking the water.

The chef actually came out and talked to us since I informed the waiter I had allergies. He was very knowledgeable and friendly, and said they could work around anything I chose.

In the end I went with the Citrus Shrimp Salad. It was great, I’d definitely get it again!

Here are a few more pictures from Downtown Disney.

We also went shopping at the beautiful Mall at Millenia.

After all that shopping we were hungry, so where did we go for dinner?? P.F. Changs my favorite restaurant just happened to be at the mall, it’s accessible from the outside of the mall only, on the same side as the valet parking!

We shared the Chicken Lettuce Wraps, and I ordered the Singapore Street Noodles. Both are offered on the gluten free menu, yes there is a gluten free menu – printed right on the regular menu! They will also provide any other allergy information for you also, my two selections were also on the dairy free list.

It was so good, we actually ate there twice during our vacation week!

While we were in Florida we had a unit with a kitchen so we could cook dinner if we did not want to go out. A few nights we did, as well as breakfasts and lunches most days.

This meant we had to go grocery shopping, we went to a few of the local grocery stores including Whole Foods which had a great selection of gluten and dairy free products.

Gluten & Dairy Free Sweetness!

Mr.K and I returned last week from Orlando. We got to escape the cold weather at home and went to  much warmer climates, almost 80 degrees most days! Hanging out by the pools, shopping, visiting Animal Kingdom, and Downtown Disney were just a few of the things we did.

Downtown Disney is also where the Babycakes Bakery is located, so of course we had to go! We actually ended up the bakery twice and bought a wide selection of treats to try.

The Babycakes Bakery is actually located inside the Pollo Campero restaurant.

They had lots of selection, and are open daily until 11pm!

The blondie, and lemon cupcakes were tasty. Lots of people were at Babycakes purchasing treats both times we were there.

The brownie cupcake as well as the chocolate dipped cookie crumb donut were my favorites!

Babycakes had so many treats, a lot of them I recognized from their cookbook. I hope to be back someday to try more!

November break

Mr. K and I went on vacation this past month to Hawaii; first a week on a cruise, then a week on the Big Island. It was summertime again for us for a couple of weeks, and now it’s almost Christmas!!

Our boat: The Pride of America

Our cruise took us to Maui, Hilo, Kona, Kauai, and Honolulu; we sailed with Norwegian’s Pride of America. If anyone has food allergies and wondering what would happen on a cruise don’t worry, at the buffet the items were labelled Gluten Free, and the other restaurants had separate menus. All of the staff were super helpful and would amend things as needed.

Here are a few pictures from our vacation; everything from beaches, rainforests, volcanos, luaus, shopping, and just relaxing. Wishing I was back there already!

On the way to Hana

Wailea Beach

Halemaʻumaʻu Crater

The Big Island:

Hapuna Beach

Hawaiian green sea turtles at Punalu’u beach

Sunset in Kona

 Hidden Falls

In Kauai we went kayaking and then for a hike up to the hidden falls. Along the way we stopped to take a swim in a lagoon. The same lagoon where Johnny Depp filmed the 4th pirates. In the trailer below where Jack Sparrow is sitting is right beside the lagoon (although you can’t see it!) and if you go up to 2:35 you’ll see where he is swimming with the mermaids in the fountain of youth, which is the lagoon we swam in. Also along the way we passed other spots that were in Jurassic Park, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and MASH.

 Honolulu at night

Waikiki Beach

After our second week in Kona was over we flew back to Honolulu for another day. Thanksgiving was over and Christmas was in full swing!

Food – Part 2

Time for a few more of the places we ate while on vacation.

Beside the beach restaurant there was the Cata Tapa restaurant. Our table was overlooking the lake in the middle of the resort.

We ate at the Italian restaurant La Toscana twice during our stay!

The pool bar was a good place to get a break from the sun during the day. In or out of the water!

We also had a hummingbird visit us a few times during our stay.

Room service was also available for delivery.

One more shot of a random dessert:

Food – Part 1

A few selections of where and what we ate on our vacation.

Starting with one of the buffets for breakfast.

Freshly made crepes.

Along with a “Make your own bloody mary station”!

Later on in the day we would stop by the Moo Loo juice bar on the beach.

We celebrated our anniversary with a special dinner at the beach restaurant.

Our fish dinners.

A cake made especially for us!

There was also a beach party one night!

And the party’s over for these two – she almost fell into the fountains on the walk back… A few times!
